Anna Dannemann is Senior Curator at The Photographers’ Gallery in London. She has curated numerous exhibitions, including the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize (2016-19) and has organized several solo exhibitions, among them Simon Fujiwara’s Joanne (2016), Charlotte Dumas’ Anima & The Widest Prairies (2015), Viviane Sassen’s Analemma (2014), and William Burroughs. Anna regularly contributes to catalogues and other publications, and received an MA in Art and Visual History from the Humboldt-University of Berlin.
Kim Knoppers is art historian and curator at FOAM in Amsterdam, The Netherlands where she has worked on significant solo exhibitions and group shows. She initiated a series on photographic archives of historical photography studios from Turkey, Albania, United States and Iran, and is a lecturer at the MA Photography at ECAL in Lausanne, Switzerland where she initiated and developed the course Do Not Disturb – Curating in Progress. Kim is the founder of Artists’ Recipes, which explores the intersection of art and food, and contributes regularly to Foam Magazine.
Jacqueline Bates is Photography Director of Pop-Up Magazine and The California Sunday Magazine, winner of the National Magazine Award for excellence in photography in 2016 and 2017. Previously, she was senior photo editor of W Magazine and worked in the photo departments of ELLE, Interview, and Wired. Bates holds an MFA in photography from the School of Visual Arts and her work has been exhibited internationally.
Marina Paulenka is the Artistic Director of Unseen Platform, one of the leading platforms for contemporary photography, and former Artistic Director of Organ Vida, an International Photography Festival based in Zagreb. She is an international juror and nominator, educator, and curator at many organisations, schools, festivals and museums, curates photography exhibitions, and takes part in many discourses on current trends in contemporary photography in numerous countries. Marina features as expert in numerous portfolio reviews all over Europe, and is an external associate lecturer at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb.
Dagmar Seeland worked as an editor and photo editor for a variety of lifestyle magazines before joining German weekly magazine STERN as a photo editor in 1999. At STERN Dagmar worked with and commission some of the biggest names in photography, and was able to discover and nurture a host of new talent. As a writer herself she is particularly passionate about photography’s role in storytelling, and understands the process and collaboration that is required to make visual ideas work.
Laura Pressley has been at the helm of CENTER in Santa Fe for over 12 years, a non-profit organisation known for the long-standing programs, including the Review Santa Fe Photo Festival, CENTER Project Grants, Santa Fe Prize and other offerings that have launched dozens of photographers’ careers. In addition to CENTER, Pressley has co-curated and produced many photographic exhibitions and most recently was a selected co-curator for the 2019 Korea International Photo Festival in Seoul.
Benoît Baume founded Fisheye Magazine in 2013, imposing a new style of photo printing. He was named by Le Journal des Arts as one of the 10 most influential people in photography as a result. Beyond the printed medium, Benoît is also actively working on new media, including virtual reality and immersive experiences. He created the VR Arles Festival within the Rencontres d’Arles and advises, with his teams from Fisheye, the biggest brands in matters of photography, images and immersive creations. Before Fisheye, Benoît was the editor of Images magazine for seven years.
Jim Casper is the editor-in-chief of LensCulture, one of the leading online destinations to discover contemporary photography from around the world. As an active member in the contemporary photography world, Casper organizes annual international photography events, travels around the world to meet with photographers and review their portfolios, curates art exhibitions, writes about photography and culture, lectures, conducts workshops, serves as an international juror and nominator for key awards, and is an advisor to arts and education organizations.

Exposure Awards 2015Since my latest project “Everlasting,” which was named a finalist in the Exposure Awards 2015, a lot has happened! My work was published in different newspapers, magazines and online magazines. I was interviewed by a Dutch radio program and then invited onto Dutch television! After this, I was ask to make a new project by the Museum Hilversum—the museum even paid all the costs to make this new project! The exhibition was shown at Hilversum and is now going to travel to Rotterdam and then Med Photofest in Sicily.

Street Photography Awards 2016The fact that my work has been chosen as LensCulture Awards finalist has been helpful for me mainly in two ways. First, the large number of festival screenings all over the world, which would be hard to get otherwise: San Francisco, Krakow, Brighton, Athens, Tokyo, San Diego, Arles. Places where your work will be seen and that you can use for your communications—it’s priceless. Street Photography Awards 2016Right after the LensCulture Street Photography awards, my work was featured in online photography magazines and blogs, including some prominent ones such as Ignant.de. Later, one of the photos made the cover of the Bavarian State Opera magazine. In May, through my collective Fragment, we took part in a street photography exhibition called Street Sans Frontières at a gallery space in Paris.

Magnum Photography Awards 2016Over the past couple months since being included in the Student Spotlight for the LensCulture/Magnum Photography Awards, I wrapped up an MFA in Photography at Hartford Art School, participated in group shows in Hartford, Connecticut, Atlanta, Georgia and Norfolk, Virginia and launched my first monograph, Carry Me Ohio, with a solo show at jdc Fine Art and a lecture/book signing at Medium Festival of Photography in San Diego.

Emerging Talent Awards 2016Because of the press from the Emerging Talent awards, I had my work featured in the New Journal of Zurich, one of the oldest newspapers in the world. My series was also written about in a number of publications, from Fast Company to Wired. I was also fortunate to show the work at the Aperture Foundation in their Summer Open exhibition, titled “On Freedom.” Next month I’ll be showing at Candela Gallery in Richmond for an exhibition “The Theory of Place.” Lastly, I’m working with Daylight Books on the production of my first monograph due out next summer, "No Man’s Land: Views from a Surveillance State."

Portrait Awards 2016LensCulture Portrait Awards was very important for us. (I am working with my life partner Sávio Freire). First of all, it was like an injection of enthusiasm and self-confidence. We took advantage of this good vibe and played our first book project. We launched a crowdfunding campaign and to our surprise, it reached 135% of the target. At the end of the year the book was printed, with the art direction assigned by Edu Hirama & Mariana Simonetti and the foreword written by psychologist and photography critic Rodrigo Fernando Pereira. It is titled “Retratos pra Yayá”, Portraits for Yasmin in English, and is trilingual with Portuguese, Polish and English versions of texts. It will be launched this month and soon available for sale on our site.

Emerging Talent Awards 2016After receiving the Emerging Talent Award, I received immense feedback from people around the world. This helped me to finally sell some fine art prints via my online print shop. Several magazine publications of the work were followed by hundreds of blogs and online magazines. I then went on to sell some large gallery prints in Moscow. LensCulture gave me the confidence that I can turn my passion of image-making into a full-time pursuit and be less dependant on commercial work. That’s a great feeling. Magnum Photography Awards 2016Winning the Magnum Photography Awards has been a really powerful experience, as it should for an award of such magnitude. I received a warm recognition from local press and international media. Opportunities from different organizations and publications appeared at my doorstep and increased my popularity. But I think the most beneficial part from winning the award was that I was able to translate virtual connections to real life relationships. Emerging Talent Awards 2016Since the award, I am actively selling fine art prints and frames on my website. I have also shown my work in a number of exhibitions recently, including solo shows at Resolve Photo (Animals on Display, 2017) and at Holy Grill 2017. My largest solo show to date was held at the Southern Jubilee Auditorium (Inhospitably Ours, 2017). I also have had a number of online interviews as a result of my LensCulture exposure including Tabi Labo, a Japanese online publication and Feature Shoot. In the fall, I will be starting my MFA at NSCAD in Halifax where I will continue to deepen my photographic practice.

Magnum Photography Awards 2016To be honest, my greatest gift from the Magnum Award was the personal validation. I’ve worked in rural Tennessee most of my life, completely unknown and unseen by the rest of the world. It feels extremely isolating most of the time. Knowing that the Magnum judges not only saw my work, but actually considered it worthy of an award was deeply humbling and encouraging. I can think of no greater agency to be associated with than Magnum.
After winning the award, I began self-publishing a small run of handmade artist books of The 13th Spring that should be ready in the next few months. Magnum Photo Content Editor Natalie Ivis helped me edit the final version of the book. With her help, we were able to produce a sequence that I couldn’t be more proud of for the book. And a few weeks ago, the book was nominated for the MACK First Book Award, so I'm hoping for good things there.

Emerging Talent Awards 2016The past year was very intense for me and many great things happened! I am one of the winners of this year’s Foam Talent—and my photo was chosen for the cover of the Foam Talent Issue. I was also the winner of the Spotlight Award in the Belfast Photo Festival and a finalist of the Prix HSBC pour la Photographie. Furthermore, my project was featured in many magazines: The Guardian, Internazionale, LM Magazine and others. Finally, I’m preparing my own photobook and a few more exhibitions of this work. Coming soon: a group show of Foam Talent, which will take place at the Foam Photography Museum in Amsterdam and then will tour to other cities. Also, a group show titled ZABLOKOWANE at the Wroclaw Contemporary Museum in Poland.
